YOU CAN MAKE THIS CHILD HEAR AND SPEAK!

BABY RAFAHA AT 11 MONTHS

This is baby Rafaha, from 56 G, Kahatowita, Sri Lanka. She is the daughter of Mr. Rajab (NIC No. 702601118 V). Her date of birth is 27.09.2010.  A delay in development was observed in her since she was six months old. 

Dr. Pyara Ratnayake, Consultant Neurologist, at Lady Ridgeway Hospital, Commenced Medication and the child was recommended to follow Physiotherapy. By the grace of Almighty, baby Rafaha now sits by herself, crawls and has just started standing up with support. She shows remarkable improvement in her development.

Unfortunately, her sense of hearing has been in question. On 14.09.2011, by an Audiology test done by Mr. Thanesraj, an Audiologist, at CHITRA LANE CHILDREN RESOURCE CENTER at Narahenpita, suggested that the child needs the COCHLEAR IMPLANT SURGERY to make her hear any sound. However, this report was referred   to  Dr. Yasawardana, Consultant ENT Surgeon,  at the LADY RIDGEWAY CHILDREN HOSPITAL and he proposed further testings. 

These tests also were done at DURDANS hospital on 30.09.2011 and it was confirmed that the COCHLEAR IMPLANT SURGERY is a must to make the child hear. The Audiologist and the ENT surgeon have recommended to use  Hearing Aids for both ears till the surgery is done, so that to keep the auditory system of the child alive.

The surgery, as per the surgeon, costs around Rs. 2.5mn. while the Hearing Aids presently in use for both ears did cost Rs. 110,000.00, purchased at WICKRAMAARACHCHCI INSTITUTE at Kollupitiya.

Since Mr. Rajab is a government officer and his partner is a house wife, it is not possible for them to find such a huge amount, in a short period, as their own, to make their child hear and speak.

Therefore, the parents look for FINANCIAL AIDS to perform the surgery, as early as possible. All the testings required have been done and now the 1st & the 2nd injections of the three, before the surgery, have also been provided. The 3rd has been scheduled to 17th of March. The surgery can be done, at anytime, after two weeks from the date of 3rd injection.   The date for the SURGERY depends on how early the amount is collected.
